Fuel Economy 101: Increasing Fuel Economy
Fuel Economy 101: How to increase fuel mileage on gas and
diesel vehicles.
Tune Up: Maintenance on all vehicles is very important.
A simple tune up can reveal small issues that can have a big effect of your
fuel economy. Clean air filters, good spark plugs and wires, clean fuel injectors
and fuel filters can all affect your fuel economy. Inversely, keeping up on
maintenance can increase your fuel economy significantly over your driving year.
On diesel vehicles, clean fuel injectors can greatly increase your fuel economy.
Most diesel injectors last 80,000-100,000 miles. If your injectors are that
old or older, new or cleaned injectors may help you increase your diesel fuel
economy. At USDieselparts.com we have a full service diesel fuel injection shop
and can clean your existing injectors, reman your existing injectors or provide
you with brand new diesel fuel injectors. Feel free to call us at 1-800-823-4444
to discuss your options.
Tire Pressure: Make sure your tire pressure meets factory
specs. If your tire pressure is too low, it can decrease your fuel economy by
up to 10%. This is a simple and free way to increase your vehicles fuel economy.
Chips/Tuners:
Performance chips and tuners have become very effective at increasing both fuel
economy and horsepower. In combination with better air flow via an air intake
system and exhaust kit you can increase your fuel economy on both gas and diesel
applications. On almost all diesel fuel applications, a chip or tuner is your
best "bang for the buck" and is the first step to increasing your diesel fuel
economy. We offer a wide variety of performance chips and tuners to meet your
needs whether you are focusing on increase fuel economy or increasing your horsepower.
In many instances both are increased. See
all or chips and tuners here.
Air
Intake Systems: Increasing air flow effectively lowers your engine temperature
as well as aids in atomization of your fuel injection system. Lower engine temps
results in your engine working less hard to achieve the same out put, thus increasing
fuel economy. We carry many brands for almost any gas or diesel application.
See our Air
Intake section for details.
Performance
Exhaust: Again, this is all about air flow which can increase your fuel
economy. Air flow also helps lower your Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT's) which
again, increase fuel economy as well as horse power. We have found that most
gas applications can be significantly improved by simply changing the intake
and exhaust. See
all your performance exhaust options here.
Over the years we have dealt with increasing fuel economy for
gas and diesel fuel vehicles. We are happy to share our knowledge with you!
