The first Cummins 5.9L diesel engines began life in the agricultural industry in the early 80's. But it wasn't until 1989 that Dodge joined forces with Cummins to release the first 5.9L I6 turbo diesel engine in the Dodge Ram.The 1989 through 1993 B-Series 5.9L I6 engine featured a Bosch rotary style VE6 injection pump and Bosch direct injection style injectors and a Holset turbocharger. This was a wise choice because it was a system that had been proven in the agricultural and industrial industry for years. The mighty 5.9L 6-cylinder engine produced a respectable 160HP and 400 lbs-ft torque right off the showroom floor. There are still abundant performance modifications for these engines that can produce some great results. In fact, we recently had a 1993 5.9L with 288k miles that we ran on our dyno that put out 250 RWHP with only a set of performance injectors and some injection pump tuning. We can set you up with all the airflow and exhaust improvements to get that engine breathing, and the pump and injectors mods to get that engine breathing fire.
