FICM Failures
The Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM) controls the fuel injectors on the
6.0L Power Stroke engine. It is responsible for stepping up the battery voltage
to 48 volts, which is required to activate the injectors. The FICM works in
conjunction with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to control the fuel delivery
to the engine. The module is located on the engines valve cover, and is subjected
to extreme heat and vibration which is the most probable cause of the FICM's
high failure rate. A failed FICM will cause stalling or a no-start condition.
If your FICM voltage is low, then you should see a DTC P0611 (Fuel Injector
Control Module Performance).

be programmed by the installer prior to vehicle operation, which is a difficult

Finding Your 6.0L Engine Build Date:
The most accurate way to get the correct FICM is by looking at the Engine Data Sticker that is located on the passenger side valve cover. It will
either have a date on it like this: "June 12th, 2004", or a date code in the DDMMYYYY format like this: "12062004". An OASIS report or a service work order from a Ford dealership will also show your engine build date. However you go about it, it is important that you get the "Engine Build Date", as opposed to the "Vehicle Build Date".
